EMD/Novagen, Inc., a high-growth life sciences company, manufactures
and distributes innovative molecular biology reagent systems for
scientific research. Strang was commissioned to design a new 35,000-s.f.
laboratory and office facility at University Research Park when
sales and production doubled.
The new facility houses 60 people and provides approximately 10,000-s.f.
of office space and common areas configured in an open office plan;
20,000-s.f. of wet lab and production space; and 5,000-s.f. of warehouse
space, which requires intensive HVAC and electrical service with
lighting.
The building supports EMD/Novagen's new corporate organization,
which is comprised of three product teams. Product pods are clustered
around a central support space, including a dishwashing area, chemistry
laboratories, competent cell manufacturing space, a dark room, media
prep space and an analysis area. Each pod has its own research and
development and production space.
The scientists' offices are located adjacent to the laboratories
and provide a safe, comfortable area to research or complete administrative
tasks. Break areas and conference rooms offer access to natural
daylight and support informal collaboration and teamwork. Additional
facility components include administrative offices, warehouse, packaging
and dispensing area, lunchroom and a covered patio. |
