The University of Wisconsin’s Health Emotions Research
Institute (HERI) conducts research on brain mechanisms , which
underlie emotions, and determine the influence of these brain
processes on bodily systems , which affect health.
Strang developed a space program and conceptual design for
a new facility to house HERI’s research activities. The
program identified an 80,000-s.f. building, including wet laboratories,
electrophysiology and sleep laboratories, clinical assessment
areas, a transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) suite, psychological
research area and common areas. Building components include
a vivarium, 90-seat auditorium, subject test rooms, sleep rooms,
interview/observation rooms, sample preparation areas, exam
rooms, specimen rooms and offices.
