Door Creek Church

Madison Area Evangelical Free Church

In 2000, Strang completed the existing Door Creek Church. Our original master planning for Door Creek’s mixed-use development on a 32-acre site involved a Specific Implementation Plan. We worked with the church to plan a new facility to accommodate this spiritual community’s future growth. Phase I construction included an expandable auditorium, library, classrooms, meeting rooms, nurseries, administrative offices and a multi-purpose space. Future phases include a private school; daycare facilities, assisted living accommodations and a youth center.

The prairie style of the building relates to the sorrounding neighborhood. A large atrium serves as a central gathering hub and a flexible, multi-purpose worship space accommodates 750 to 800 people and is expandable to 1,200 people. The lower level includes offices and a flexible quad of four contiguous spaces, which provide educational and meeting areas with state of the art projection booths, stages and lighting.

In 2008, Door Creek Church selected Strang to design an expansion, which will include cafe-like multipurpose community spaces, a new 300 seat chapel/worship space, education and office space. The goal of the project is to create a sense of community by drawing on the best characteristics of contemporary gathering spaces such as coffee shops and “Third Places.”
