This
new 167,000-sf. high-tech office and knowledge-based
manufacturing facility provides space for the development
and manufacture of innovative medical devices for
the assessment of osteoporosis, metabolic bone diseases,
and orthopedic surgery.
Facility components include research and development
laboratories, corporate offices, product display areas,
production facility, dealer training room, product
testing area, warehouse and cafeteria. Its flexible
building plan accommodates future expansion of the
site, with minimal disruption to the natural surroundings
and GE Lunar's operations.
Special thought was given to creating a pleasant
work environment for every employee. Subtle earth
tones, curved elements, and deeply recessed windows
reflect the owner's aesthetic preferences, while reinforcing
the elements of sustainable design that are infused
throughout the building.
Every employee is given access to diffused, cool
natural daylight. By placing open office areas along
the exterior walls with windows, Strang maximized
daylight and created a more egalitarian layout. A
large, light-filled cafeteria with catering service
and expansive views of the natural surroundings doubles
as company-wide meeting space. The adjacent patio
provides access to the outdoors. |
