American Players Theatre breaks ground on new theater

SPRING GREEN, Wis. (April 14, 2008) – The American Players Theatre breaks ground today for a new indoor theatre and production support building at their wooded campus in Spring Green, Wis. Strang has designed an 11,000 square foot theater building to house a 200-seat theater with a lobby, concessions, will call, dressing rooms and a green room.

The 14,000 square foot Production Support Building will house a paint shop, scene shop, offices, rehearsal hall and storage. Understanding the dynamics of scene shop functions, Strang’s in-house Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing experts will ensure integration of the fume exhaust system in the paint and maintenance shops.

The theater will have an informal, rustic and comfortable design. The goal is to transport visitors to a theatre in the woods. The lobby and patio is designed to provide a seamless transition between the landscape and the interior. This includes a high degree of transparency, with covered outdoor loggias to evoke a “theater in the woods” theme. In addition, the lobby and patio will accommodate food service and seating requirements for special events.

The buildings will be complete in 2009.
