The University of Wisconsin’s Health Emotions Research Institute (HERI) conducts research on brain mechanisms , which underlie emotions, and determine the influence of these brain processes on bodily systems , which affect health.
Strang developed a space program and conceptual design for a new facility to house HERI’s research activities. The program identified an 80,000-s.f. building, including wet laboratories, electrophysiology and sleep laboratories, clinical assessment areas, a transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) suite, psychological research area and common areas. Building components include a vivarium, 90-seat auditorium, subject test rooms, sleep rooms, interview/observation rooms, sample preparation areas, exam rooms, specimen rooms and offices.
