Strang developed a total facilities renovation plan to evaluate remodeling options and identify recommendations. The project included an assessment of the interior and analysis of the electrical, mechanical and structural systems. Following detailed air infiltration analysis, Strang recommended a new heating system. The building was reroofed and tuck pointed, and remodeled to provide handicapped access and comply with fire codes.
Science Hall was originally built in 1877 to provide laboratories and offices for the science and engineering departments, but was soon destroyed by fire. The existing building was built on the same site in 1887. The building houses the Geography and Environmental Sciences Departments, libraries and the State of Wisconsin’s Cartographer's Office. The 70,000 square foot facility is on the National Register of Historic Places. |
