This project initially involved a master plan to accommodate
Middleton Library’s growth. Strang then updated the
original library and designed a build-out of an unfinished
basement area, including: central elevator, computer room,
meeting room, office areas, a children’s room and adult
learning and fiction holdings. The renovation and build out
at Middleton Library transformed the space into a cozy, light-filled
library with various types of intimate and interactive space.
An important design goal was to provide access to the adult
learning and fiction holdings located in the lower level.
A new centrally located elevator provides easy access to the
lower level areas, and is the focal image on the first floor.
A new reading room occupies a previously unenclosed outdoor
patio area facing the main street of Middleton.
Strang updated interior finishes and materials to blend with
the existing architecture of the library and downtown Middleton.
Carpet patterns reinforce traffic flow and lead users to designated
holding areas. Library staff can easily monitor activities
in the space through view corridors from main vantage points.
