Strang completed a master planning of the existing
177,000 square foot Villager Mall building and site
in 2007. The evaluation identified elements of the
facilities structure and mechanical systems that will
require maintenance, repair or replacement over a
five-year period. The study also documented known
concerns, recommended solutions and estimated
costs where applicable.
The goals of the Master Plan were to accommodate
the needs of existing and future user groups and
strengthen community ties. It also was important to
provide flexible solutions and provide an outdoor
community space and an area for a Farmer’s Market.
Phase one of the master plan includes the remodeling
to the Atrium portion of the existing building, site
improvements in front of the Atrium and development
of a new three story building. Strang was selected to
design the Atrium in 2008.
The nine acre Villager site is located on South Park
Street. The existing building was constructed as three
separate buildings (a shopping mall, an insurance
building and a bowling alley) and was combined
into a single structure in the 1960s. The most recent
renovation was in the 1990s when the bowling alley
was converted into office space.
