Located in the heart of the East Isthmus,
East Washington Avenue is one of the most prominent corridors
to the Capitol and the heart of Madison. It has been the
subject of mang planning efforts.
Strang designed the 9,500 square foot center to house several
shops. The design focused on creating a pedestrian-friendly
atmosphere to complement the neighborhood. The front facade
is broken down into several smaller-looking structures to
fit with the surrounding residential scale, and incorporates
a number of different materials and colors.
Some of the main goals of the development were to utilize
existing infrastructure to reduce urban sprawl, provide
a vibrant mix of businesses, protect neighborhood character,
enhance recreation open space and create a live-work environment. |
