The installation of air conditioning at The Mendota
Mental Health Facility was the first phase of a new,
central campus chilled water system. Existing conditions
made the project very challenging. Ductwork placement
was complicated because of low floor-to-floor height
and a high level of existing electrical systems within
the corridor ceilings for nurse call, fire alarm and
security systems. A six-phase construction schedule
was necessary to accommodate partial occupancy without
sacrificing security.
Other improvements included high security windows,
an engineered smoke control system, and an upgraded
roof structural system to carry the increased load
of a new mechanical penthouse. |
