Whether they’re used for development or quality control, these spaces are often highly customized. No two labs are the same. Designers work in close collaboration with lab professionals to consider the science, functional adjacencies and operational flows for the space.

Virtual reality is an important tool in that process.

An architect can design aisles wide enough and ceilings high enough to access lab equipment. But VR headsets allow lab professionals to go inside the design and better understand spacial relationships in rooms filled with mixing tanks, refrigerators and casework.

By visually moving throughout their future facility, they innately notice the challenges in transporting hazardous materials from one room to another. And they can experience all of this while there’s still plenty of time to make design adjustments.
